Hello! My name is Zooey. I’m a 2-spirited Indigenous person from Northern Ontario. I’m also a fourth-year student at Algoma University on the Sault Sainte Marie campus. I recently graduated from Sault College with two diplomas in IT and Business Management certification.
I started a website to contribute to the global peace movement in the only way I know how: by being creative, committed, and, well, kind of kooky! In a topsy-turvy world where so many people are desperately looking for relief, I feel one of the best remedies is to bring a sense of hope to the moment.
I titled the website, Whirled Peas, as a play on words, and as a playful image of being tossed to-and-fro—whirled—yet still coming together in the eddies of chaos that often follow global change. We may be a bit discombobulated but we’re making it work.
By writing and creating art on world peace, as well as helping community-minded organizations run a little smoother, I’m fostering global harmony. My heart blooms in an environment where doing the right thing is nurtured both in my home life and on the job, and it starts today with this post.
The journey to higher education and a better life for me and my family began in 2015. It is now coming to a close with my graduation this spring in Fine Arts. I saw many things along the way, but most of all I saw a way to help solve global disharmony.
I can write about it. I can make a positive change towards peaceful living, even if it’s a small one.
And, you know, maybe put a smile on a face or two along the way.
